‘Scottish Hammer’ Jamie Gillan wins AFC Special Teams award

Scottish punter Jamie Gillan Was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week Following an Outstanding display for the Cleveland Browns from the New York Jets.

Nicknamed”The Scottish Hammer”, Inverness-born Gillan acquired five punts inside the 20-yard line in the Browns’ 23-3 win also leads the total NFL in that group with eight in just two matches this season.
His six punts against the Jets travelled a total of 231 yards and only one of them was able to be returned – for a total of five metres.
Gillan, who went to college at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, wasn’t chosen from the 2019 NFL Draft, but was picked up from the Browns as a free agent and named starter after an impressive preseason.

In the NFC, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson took the offensive award, Shaquil Barrett of this Tampa Bay Buccaneers won honours for a screen that was three-sack and the special teams award was won by Chicago Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro for his game-winning 53-yard field goal.
